Chanukah celebration returning to Cunningham Park for fifth year

Nov. 27, 2023 By Iryna Shkurhan The fifth annual Light Up The Night, a menorah lighting ceremony in honor of Chanukah, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10, in Cunningham Park.  Organizers of the event, which includes the Bukharian Jewish Community Center and Queens Jewish Community Council, expect over 2,000 people to attend. This year, Chanukah will begin on Thursday, Dec. 7 and end on Friday, Dec. 15.  Israeli singer Gad Elbaz will deliver a live performance at the event. Nov. 21, 2023 By Ethan Marshall The number of vehicles being stolen, categorized by the NYPD as grand larceny auto, has increased throughout Queens year-to-date, compared to the same period in 2022, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD. Grand larceny auto incidents are up 39.6% in northern Queens for the year through Nov. 19, rising from 1,718 incidents last year to 2,398 this year. Woman struck by hit-and-run driver near Clearview Expressway in Bayside: NYPD

Nov. 20, 2023 By Bill Parry A 35-year-old woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver near the Clearview Expressway in Bayside last week, according to authorities. Police from the 111th Precinct in Bayside are looking for the motorist who sped away from the scene of the collision that left the victim injured and lying on the roadway at around 6 a.m. on Nov. 14. EMS responded and rushed the woman to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, police said. The Big Apple ranked as the fourth-least affordable city, moving up from the fifth place spot in the prior month’s report.
